Special Education

“All Learning is an Experience, the rest is just information” Albert Einstein

At the Eveline Day School each child’s needs are of the utmost importance. Our special needs policy is in line with the Department for Education and skills SEN practice. We have weekly visits from an Educational Consultant Psychologist who is on hand to work with individual children, advise staff on any special programmes needed to meet a particular child’s needs and offer support to parents.

As a part of the SEN provision in the school, Literacy assessments are carried out with individual children and individual Education programs written with targets and strategies to be followed to meet the childrens needs.

Advice and strategies are given to teachers and parents about any behaviour issues or concens. The Educational consultant is available also to meet with parents who wish to discuss concerns about their child's learning or emotional issues. 1:1 "ShineTime" is also offered to individual children as a time to talk to an adult with theraputic skills.

Each year at the shools "Open Evening" there is a talk to the parents on topics of interest such as:

  • Preparing your child for learning-brainbased learning.
  • Managing your child's challenging behaviour
  • Early literacy and reading with your child
  • Defining your role as a parent

These talks are always well received and the parents find them both informative and practical, with suggestions and strategies for them to practice.

These talks are extended to the nurseries on their Open Evenings.

Theraputic work is also carried out with individual children during "Shine Time" this is arranged with parents and carers prior to any work and parents are always kept informed and as involved as possible.
